Vanessa is the daughter of Peruvian immigrants and was raised in Gaithersburg, Maryland. She is the
first in her family to graduate from college and received a B.A. in Political Science and double minor in
Psychology and Education from American University. She previously worked with District of Columbia
Public Schools and the D.C. Mayor’s Office on Latino Affairs.
Vanessa is a Partner at Solidarity Strategies where she develops and implements strategic
communications and voter contact programs for progressive candidates and non-profits. She leads
independent expenditures, provides advice for candidates, and runs programs from multi-district GOTV
to grassroots lobbying.
In the 2016 cycle, Vanessa helped elect 6 new Latino Members of Congress and most recently has aided
in their reelections. This last cycle, she helped flip the House of Representatives through her work with
the DCCC’s Year of Engagement. Vanessa was also essential in forming and managing the National
Association of Diverse Consultants, an organization created to promote the hiring of minority-owned
Vanessa was the keynote speaker at Campaign Elections’ CampaignTech Jalisco in Guadalajara,
Mexico last year. She was recognized as a Rising Star in 2016 by Campaign Elections and was the only
Democratic Latina in her class.
